MORE ABOUT SAGE COUNSELING AND FINANCIAL SERVICES
With twenty years of experience in the fields of mental health, leadership, small business administration, and outdoor recreation, I bring a diverse set of skills to my work as a counselor, planner and coach. Having built my own home and lived very cheaply while working as a river guide and worked more traditional work schedules with accompanying mortgages and other debt, I’ve come to understand that there are many ways to approach our understanding of financial needs, goals, and security. Ultimately, financial independence means something different for all of us.
My Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling and licensure with the state of North Carolina along with my training as a financial planner, make me uniquely qualified to provide “financial therapy,” the integration of mental health counseling and financial planning, two services that are typically provided by different entities. Historically counselors and therapists have avoided allowing money, “the last taboo,” into the therapy office, whereas financial planners rarely have the counseling skills and training needed to address the emotional conflict and strife that frequently accompanies our financial lives.
